Allow Gamma buttons on published sites to open external links in a new tab

Description:
I would like to request an option for Gamma buttons on published Gamma sites to open external links in a new browser tab.
Current behavior:
When I add an external URL to a Gamma button and publish the site, clicking the button opens the external page in the same tab and replaces the Gamma site.
Expected behavior:
There should be a button setting such as:
Open external link in new tab
This should work not only in Preview mode, but also on the published Gamma site.
Why this matters:
Gamma sites are often used as elegant landing pages, learning portals, project hubs, or client-facing pages. In these cases, external links often lead to forms, booking pages, feedback forms, surveys, resources, payment pages, or other third-party tools.
When the external link opens in the same tab, users leave the Gamma site and may not return. This is especially problematic when the Gamma site is the main navigation layer and the external link is only a supporting action.
In my case, I am using Gamma as a branded learning portal. Some buttons lead to external feedback and support forms. I want users to be able to open those forms without losing their place in the Gamma site.
Requested improvement:
Please add an “Open in new tab” option directly to button link settings for published Gamma sites, especially for external URLs.
This would preserve the Gamma user experience, improve navigation, and make Gamma sites much more useful as public-facing portals.

Igor Lukić this is super clear and honestly a really reasonable ask. Thanks for laying out the use case and why it matters. I’ll pass this along to the team as a request for a per-button setting like “Open external link in new tab” that works on published sites (not just preview).
Quick question so we capture the right behavior: should this apply only to external URLs, or would you want the same toggle available for internal links within the same Gamma site too?

Hi Nik,
thank you for the quick follow-up.
In my view, this should be available as a per-button setting for both external URLs and internal links within the same Gamma site.
The key point is that the user should be able to decide the intended behavior for each button, regardless of whether the destination is internal or external.
For example:
- an internal navigation button within the same Gamma site will usually open in the same tab;
- an external form, booking page, resource, or support link will often work better in a new tab;
- but there may also be cases where an internal page should open in a new tab, or where an external page should intentionally replace the current one.
So the ideal solution would be a simple toggle in the button settings:
Open link in new tab: on/off
That way, Gamma keeps the default behavior simple, but gives creators full control when they need it.
Thanks again for taking this seriously and passing it along to the team.
