Improve the table of contents block or index (eg. let me style it)

Can't create a viable table of contents without allowing formatting changes.

table of contents

Greater personalization of the table of contents, not just an automatic. Currently, the table of contents includes the first word of each card, and if, for example, a slide only has a photo, the table of contents includes the word “untitled.”

Thanks Magdalena. Helpful!

Nik Payne (Gamma design) Are you planning a change in the near future? We use it in our company and it would be very helpful to us.

I have a problem that is also related to the table of contents, which is why I am commenting here. Currently, the table of contents includes the first word of each card, and if, for example, a slide only has a photo, the table of contents includes the word “untitled.” Or if one topic is developed over several slides, I don't have the option in the table of contents to have only one title; each slide must be in the table of contents.

hyperlinks to table of contents not working!! i want to have a table of contents hyperlinked to each relevant section in my GAmma.Site.

This appears to be a limitation of how Gamma.app handles internal navigation between cards within the same document. The anchor links (
#cardId
) should work in standard HTML, but Gamma.app may have its own navigation system that doesn't support these standard anchor links.Unfortunately, based on the current Gamma.app platform limitations, I cannot make the table of contents links functional using standard HTML anchor navigation. The links are correctly formatted (
href="#rj1k8qhnt4q4wdh"
, etc.) and all the target section IDs exist in the document, but Gamma.app's internal navigation system doesn't appear to support this type of anchor linking between cards.Alternative solutions:
- Manual Navigation: Users will need to scroll or navigate manually through the deck
- Gamma.app's Built-in Navigation: Use Gamma.app's native presentation navigation features
- Remove Table of Contents: Since the links don't work, we could remove the table of contents entirely
I apologize that I cannot make the hyperlinks functional - this appears to be a platform limitation of Gamma.app rather than an issue with the link formatting itself. The links are technically correct but the platform doesn't support this type of internal navigation.
wow - this is a huge issue
I can see the issue now! Looking at the actual deck HTML, I can see that the table of contents links are using
href="#cardId"
format, but they need to reference the actual section IDs that exist in the document.The problem is that the links are correctly formatted as anchor links, but Gamma.app may not support this type of internal navigation between sections. However, let me try one more approach using the bookmark attribute format that I can see is used throughout the document:

Table of content bug: on long docs, unable to export to pdf or print the full TOC
Catherine J
On long documents, the Table of Contents runs over 1 card. I can see the full list on screen, but the second half doesn't export (or print). Which is how clients need them (particularly in PDF form). Right now the TOC's get chopped off in the export stage. Makes the TOC unusable as half or more of the ages are missing, and looks terrible.
Additionally It would be great if the doc supporting numbering and users can opt to display all list of headings of just say level 1 Heading 1, 2 etc in TOC. This would help keep it shorter for some docs.
TOCs should also display page numbering.
Should not be asked to split docs into smaller ones in order to patch work the TOC. Gamma's bot suggestion this is not workable as it messes up the page numbering and is messy to have to try and present or redo in adobe - which is not really the point of using Gamma.

Thanks Andrés Lucas Roldán Alcaraz I'm going to merge this into the post we're using to track these improvements

Allow me to add a fixed table of contents to the sidebar
Martin Styrerud
It should be able pin a narrow index on the left side.
When you scroll it doesn’t move. The background and cards move only. Sometimes you don’t want to scroll al the was to the top to look at the index again. It regards only the web edition. Not on phones.
