Comprehensive Design Pop-Up Toolbar
Dave Pasciuto
Overall, the toolbar when selecting blocks is not bad, just missing certain components that would make the UX smoother. For example:
- I should be able to change the color, and fill for elements, like a Text box, in one place. (Adding fill color to boxes, quotes, and even icons would be a huge win!)
- I should be able to change the color of a card background, independently from the content card background, all in one place, not by going to the 3 dots and selecting page bg. Keep all the visual stuff together. The popup toolbar is the source of truth.
- Color swatches should include gradients for Fonts/Type. Currently it is automatic, and gives unexpected results that cannot be changed. I understand why this is as designed, but a designer will want to make their own choices.
- The popup tool bar should also have a "turn into" like Notion, so turn text into a call out approach. As of now, I have to go to the main toolbar on the right to do this.
Thanks again! I do love Gamma, I'm sure it is a lot to wrangle on the dev end!

Thanks, Nik. I really appreciate the approaching platform to feedback and features for Gamma here. I wish other platforms, (like Notion) followed suit.
I get to a point where I’m just going card by card and fixing and adjusting elements in blocks. So I select a thing, and want to change its color, or changing icon, or change it to a Block quote, basically just polishing. But sometimes I have to go into page settings for things, sometimes it’s in the popup toolbar, sometimes it’s in the main toolbar on the right. So it just be nice to select the item, change its color, or whatever needs to be changed from the one place. If that makes sense.

Hey Dave Pasciuto, this is awesome feedback, thank you for laying it out so clearly (and for the kind words). I’ll pass this to the team.
Quick question so we scope it right: when you say the pop-up toolbar should be the “source of truth,” do you want it to cover styling at all levels (selected element, the card, and the page background) in one consistent spot, or mainly just bring the most common visual controls (fill, gradients, turn-into) into the pop-up so you don’t have to bounce to the side panel/3-dot menus?
