Improve documents feature (fill space, automatically split to better fit on fixed sizes like letter, A4)
Dan Verton
U.S. letter dimensions for exporting documents in pdf do not export in 8.5" x 11" - they are 12.1 x 16" - Can you fix the export function so that it exports the document in the correct dimension?

Need more control over page size
Molly McCowan
I often design eBooks. But when I choose US Letter, it exports as a PDF with 12.5” width (instead of 8.5” width). I want to be able to input my exact page size.

Automatically reflow text from one card to another
Jeff Shuck
Would be great to auto-flow long text from one card to another! Wow would this be a stand-out capability!
If this already exists, please let me know. :-)

Fill space on card when generating documents
Raul Alfredo Tello

Need consistent page sizes and to be able to control the size
Jennifer Amdur Spitz
Document size output is erratic. there should be some controls over page size in output. The 'cards' are erratically sized depending on content. This happens when I paste in text I've written. The platform only seems good and making up stuff from thin air and making it look good -- even if its incoherent. I like the promise of this platform, but as it is I cannot use it to actually get work done. I've tried severral times to have it design actual documents that need layout and design. nope.

Jennifer Amdur Spitz yeah our AI generator doesn't always do a great job of filling the page. As you've noticed—we also don't allow "running over" so it's a little more "canva ebook" than it is true Google doc. I think we can improve this, but is gonna take time (we're a small team of 30).

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your response. Sorry to come off so crabby. I selected document as the format and it delivered various sized blocks, but it neither shrunk the text to fit on one page nor did it give me the option to let it run over two pages. I had a two page document to start — sell sheet — and was hoping for some design assistance. Appreciate what you are building. I subscribed for the year, so I’ll be along in your journey. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like feedback on any features or use cases. Very excited for Gamma!

hi Jennifer Amdur Spitz thanks for the feedback, and sorry you're running into issues.
Yes—there is definitely some work we could do to improve our document feature. Candidly we're a tiny team trying to balance a good amount of competing priorities.
A couple of questions:
- Have you tried using our page setup feature? You can make A4/letter cards
- If so, is the issue that content can run over the edge of a card, or doesn't automatically crop/slice?
- Are you able to provide some screenshots or visual examples of where it's falling short for me (and other designers) to use to improve our product?
Nik Payne (Gamma design)
Jeff Shuck thanks for the detail, that's helpful.
- Sounds like these are getting exported and printed?
- Do you use a lot of card layout images or fancy card styling? I think that's the thing that can make this a bit tricky (eg. it reflows so two cards have the same same image, or it disappears entirely when text gets shorter).
One other approach we've been weighing is splitting cards automatically during PDF export. You might have 5 much longer cards that are like chapters, and get divvied up automatically during export

Forgot to @ you Jeff Shuck ^, see reply above

Not currently possible, but something I've been wondering about as the designer of our page setup and formats.
Can you tell me a bit more about your use case, and where you'd expect it (eg. docs, presentations, websites—all)?
I think our internal hypothesis was that it would only make sense for docs, but idk if that is right.
Jeff Shuck
Nik Payne (Gamma design), yes, it would be for documents -- but could be handy for presentations, too. One thing we've played with a tiny bit is creating in both formats -- for example, creating a handout but then putting it into a presentation format, so we can present it to an audience but give them something more printable/readable to take home. That workflow starts in a document. As soon as we're chopping up text into multiple cards by hand we're sucking time, but it also screws with any automated reformatting we might want to do later. So a text flow would be amazing!
