I’d love the ability to import a PowerPoint (.pptx) and use the actual PowerPoint file as the working template/canvas, rather than having Gamma extract its colors, fonts, text and images into a new Gamma theme. For example, my university provides an official PowerPoint template that students are required to use. I want to keep the template exactly as designed, including its Slide Master, layouts, backgrounds, logos, shapes, positioning, and other visual elements. What I would then like is to use Gamma’s existing slide-building tools on top of that template. Gamma could still let me choose layouts based on what I want to add to a slide such as a chart, comparison, diagram, text + image, table, callout, etc., and automatically create and arrange those elements within the existing template. I’m also completely happy to choose the layout myself rather than requiring Gamma to automatically understand every PowerPoint template This would be especially useful for students and organizations that are required to use official PowerPoint templates but want the convenience of Gamma’s easier content creation and visual layout tools. Currently, importing a PowerPoint extracts its content rather than preserving the actual PowerPoint structure, so this feature would be a major improvement for users who need to work within existing institutional or corporate templates.

What I did Imported an 8-slide .pptx into Gamma. Every slide had speaker notes attached in PowerPoint. I chose the faithful / as-is import option. What happened Slides, body text, and images all came across correctly — no complaints there. Every speaker note was silently dropped. All eight cards arrived with empty notes panels, and there was no warning during import that anything had been discarded. What I expected Notes present in the source file land in each card's speaker notes panel. Why this matters more than it looks At 8 slides I just retyped them and moved on. That's why you probably don't hear about this much. At 70 slides nobody retypes anything — they conclude Gamma can't take their existing decks and they don't migrate. The users this hurts worst never become users, so they never file a ticket. I'd guess that's why this gap has stayed open. It also cuts against your own docs. Your import article says content can come in "exactly as-is." Your speaker notes article describes notes as a first-class feature. Neither one mentions that the two don't connect, so there's no way to find this out except by losing the notes. The fix PPTX stores notes in ppt/notesSlides/notesSlideN.xml, related to each slide by an explicit relationship. Mapping that to the card notes panel is a direct one-to-one — the data is already structured and labeled in the file you're parsing. Google Slides and Keynote both round-trip these on .pptx import and export. Two questions Is speaker note import on the roadmap, and is there any timeline? Does the reverse work — when I export a Gamma deck to .pptx, do card notes get written into the PowerPoint notes pane? I haven't tested it and your docs don't say.

Make this import content button enable importing more than physical files.

I'd like the ability to automatically import the speaker's notes for each slide, all at once. Copying and pasting 30 notes one at a time isn't the best for convenience.

Gamma used to allow me to have chatgpt or claude create a markdown file for slides that I could dump the file into Gamma and it would create my slides and also recognize the speaker notes and place them in the speaker notes box. That started acting finnicky so I explicitly told it not to put on the slide but put it in speaker box and that worked for a bit and then that stopped working. Please fix that so that we can add the work notes with quotes or some kind of notation to indicate that we want certain text to go in speaker notes field instead of on the slide. The AI notes that Gamma generates are not good. I don't need notes to tell me to sit up and smile. To be helpful and to save me time, I need notes about my content.

When importing from PPT or text, I would hope to be able to direct presenter's notes directly to Notes section of the Card, and for AI to import into Notes area if it is designated as such in the imported text.

Gamma is a terrible program. It is absolutely not worth the money you pay for it. Every time it regenerates a presentation, it creates completely different characters, inserts random people who have nothing to do with the story, and fails to maintain any visual or narrative continuity from one slide to the next. It cannot keep the characters’ faces, clothing, or appearances consistent. Using Gamma has been a complete waste of my time and money. It is an awful program, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Did you know that when u generate a new presentation and checking the box "Preserve this exact text" it still auto generate texts in the presentation?

Should be able to import Excel spread sheets.

I created a presentation in Gamma, exported this presentation to my disk (as a PPTX file). Now I tried to import this presentation of.PPTX into Gamma (normal import). Unfortunately, after importing, an empty tab appears, that is, there is no presentation. I did not find the answer to my problem in the “Guide” or in the “Help”. Please solve the problem.
